Watch 3D video on the glasses you already own

ez3D aims for a seamless experience of 3D video on glasses-free 3D displays and augmented reality (AR) glasses.

ez3D is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox that displays overlay controls for watching side-by-side (SBS) 3D and VR180 video. It can also convert SBS 3D to anaglyph 3D on the fly, so the same video can be watched on an ordinary 2D display.

The extension works on YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion or any webpage with an HTML5 video, including players inside iframes and shadow DOM. It also carries its own player for SBS video files held on your own computer — open one from the extension's popup and it gets the same overlay controls.

Frequently asked questions

What is ez3D?

ez3D is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox that adds 3D video controls to side-by-side (SBS) 3D and VR180 video. It is made for AR glasses and glasses-free 3D monitors, and it can also turn SBS video into anaglyph 3D for an ordinary 2D screen.

How do I watch SBS 3D YouTube videos on AR glasses?

Install ez3D, switch your AR glasses — XREAL, VITURE, RayNeo or similar — to their side-by-side 3D mode, then play an SBS 3D video on YouTube and go fullscreen. ez3D draws a control bar in each eye's half of the picture, so you can pause, seek and adjust the image without taking the glasses off.

Which websites does ez3D work on?

ez3D works on YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion and any other website that plays video in an HTML5 video element, including players embedded in iframes and web-component (shadow DOM) players.

Does ez3D work with Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video?

No. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and other DRM-protected services never expose their video frames to browser extensions, so no extension can read or rearrange their picture — ez3D included.

Can I watch SBS 3D video on a normal 2D monitor?

Yes, with anaglyph glasses. ez3D's anaglyph mode merges the left and right halves into one colour-filtered image as the video plays. It supports five glasses types — red-cyan, green-magenta, amber-blue, red-green and red-blue — and the A key cycles through them. Red-cyan, green-magenta and amber-blue use Dubois colour matrices to reduce ghosting.

Does ez3D support VR180 and 360° video?

Yes. For side-by-side VR180 and 360° video, ez3D's Projection control undistorts fisheye 180°, fisheye 220°, fisheye 360° and equirectangular footage, and its Lens control matches how the fisheye was shot: equidistant, equisolid, stereographic or orthographic.

Can ez3D play 3D video files from my computer?

Yes. ez3D has its own player for local files: choose Open local video player in the extension's popup, then drop or pick an SBS video file, and it plays with every overlay control. It works the same in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and the file is played on your computer, never uploaded.

Which browsers does ez3D support?

ez3D runs in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers such as Brave and Opera, and in Mozilla Firefox. Safari users can convert the Chrome build with Apple's safari-web-extension-converter tool.

How does ez3D detect 3D video?

ez3D looks at the picture, not the title. During the first three seconds of playback it compares the left and right halves of six frames on the GPU: a side-by-side 3D video shows the same scene twice, and a 2D video does not. Before playback starts, or when the browser will not let it read the frames, ez3D goes by the video's title and description instead. The result shows in the toolbar icon's tooltip.

Is ez3D free?

Yes. ez3D is free with every feature included, and no paid tier is planned. It collects no data — no analytics, no telemetry — and its settings stay on your device. Optional gifts help pay for testing on new 3D hardware.

Every control and keyboard shortcut is listed on the ez3D features page, and anything not answered here can go through ez3D support.
